Descriptions

As the only company with its own seaplane for spotting whales, our success rate in seeing whales is second to none.

Our vessel, the Island Caper, is the region's premier whale watching boat. Every passenger has two seats - one inside and one outside. With 386 feet of outside railing space, you'll never feel crowded. We offer a full walk around main deck and a large top deck that is partially covered for protection from the sun or rain. Inside, the forward cabin has leather armchairs and davenports, while the aft cabin has tables and chairs. There are two spacious, clean, and easy to operate restrooms. Our state-of-the-art sound system features 38 speakers, making it possible for everyone to hear no matter where they are located.

Because of the Caper's size, height, and stability, you'll get better pictures and have better viewing. We offer free binocular usage, free coffee and tea, free parking, and no fuel surcharge. We make our large library of resource books available to you throughout your cruise. Our excellent and reasonably priced lunch counter offers many selections, meaning you don't have to worry about bringing food with you. (But you can if you want.)

We began whale watching in the San Juan Islands in 1980 and and are one of only four remaining founding members of the Whale Watch Operators Association NW. We are also a founding member of SAFE Whale Watching.

Departures are from our conveniently located mainland dock in Bellingham. Midway between Seattle and Vancouver, BC, we are just two miles from Interstate 5. Within 3 miles, you will find 1,500 motel rooms, scores of excellent restaurants, more shopping opportunities than anyone needs, and every other service required by locals and travelers alike.

How You Can Help

Every one of us can make a difference. Pollution and lack of suitable food are the major factors that are threatening the Southern Resident Orca Whales.

Cleaning up the environment in which they live will not only promote their survival, but will benefit the entire ecosystem. There are many ways that you can help, and we hope that you do.
