Descriptions

Maya's Westside Charters is located on the West Side of San Juan Island, WA. There are often Orcas within sight of their dock at Snug Harbor Marina. Owners Capt. Jim Maya, and his wife, Carolee Maya, are both retired school teachers and live three minutes from the Snug Harbor Resort dock, overlooking Haro Strait. San Juan Island's West Side is where the local Orcas are seen most often between May and October. Because of that proximity to Haro St., passengers with Maya's Charters get to see Orcas sooner and get to see many other varieties of wildlife. Capt. Jim has twenty years experience watching whales.

Maya's offer charters 7 days a week on their 2007, 30 foot Glacier Bay Catamaran, the Peregrine. The Peregrine is an extremely stable and safe craft, with room for 7 passengers inside the heated cabin. The Peregrine's cabin has a private head (toilet) and wrap around windows. With outdoor seating on the bow and aft, everyone always has a great view of the whales. Experienced photographers love the Peregrine's roof hatches. Reservations are a must. Please check us out on TripAdvisor.com or with your inn keeper on San Juan Island.

How You Can Help

Every one of us can make a difference. Pollution and lack of suitable food are the major factors that are threatening the Southern Resident Orca Whales.

Cleaning up the environment in which they live will not only promote their survival, but will benefit the entire ecosystem. There are many ways that you can help, and we hope that you do.
